You can read about writing, but you can also listen to other people talking about writing. Podcasts are easy to find – you can download them from platforms like iTunes, or you can listen to them online. And there’s plenty of podcasts about writing, for writers, for you to choose from. So settle back and have a listen.
The Bestseller Experiment
Join Mark Stay and Mark Desvaux – two authors who decided to write and publish a best-selling book in a year – as they discuss writing and sales strategies hints and tips. They’ve interviewed lots of authors including Ian Rankin and Joanne Harris, and even RNA member Lorna Cooke, author of The Forgotten Village.
The Worried Writer
Sarah Painter overcame her anxiety to become a published author, and in this podcast she shares her advice on how “to overcome fear, self-doubt and procrastination.” Hear her guests such as Julie Cohen and Terry Lynn Thomas share their tips. Transcriptions for each episode are provided on her website.
The Misfits Guide to Writing Indie Romance
Eliza Peake and Adrienne Bell’s podcast covers a different theme in each weekly episode, whether it’s the hows and whats and whys of writing, or their thoughts on the book market. An interesting podcast for both indie and trad published authors alike.
All the Kissing
By romance writers, for romance writers, this podcast covers various aspects of writing, and writing romance in particular, with episodes on worldbuilding, representation, plotting and more.
The Writer’s Routine
Hosted by prolific podcast and radio presenter Dan Simpson, the award-winning Writer’s Routine features an interview with a different author each week. Dan finds out about their working day, and gathers hints and tips for listeners to help you with your writing.
We’d Like a Word
Paul Waters and Stevyn Colgan interview authors from all different genres about their writing. Guests have included RNA member Lisa Firth (aka Lisa Swift and Mary Jayne Baker) on romcoms, and Kritika Pandey, winner of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize. And they visit independent bookshops too.
Gin & Gentlemen
Last but not least, Gin & Gentlemen, the podcast by yours truly and my co-writer, Catherine Curzon. We take you behind the scenes of our books, and tell you about our inspirations and the obstacles we face – and how we overcame them. Plus there’s episodes on films, family restaurants from the 1980s, vintage computer games and whatever else floats our collective boats.
