Finalists: The Historical Romantic Novel Award 2025

20 April 2025

The Butterfly Garden by Rachel Burton (Boldwood):

I am thrilled to be nominated for the The Historical Romantic Novel of the year. I know what tough competition I am up against and the high caliber of the historical genre in general. The Butterfly Garden was a book very much written from the heart and I’m delighted that it has touched the hearts of other people too.

The Earl Pretender by Caitlyn Callery (Wild Rose Press):

Learning I was shortlisted absolutely made my day. I couldn’t stop smiling. When you write books, you hope readers will enjoy them, but you never really know. Being shortlisted for this award encourages me that they do, and spurs me on.

The Wicked Lady by Elena Collins (Judy Leigh) (Boldwood):

I’m thrilled to be shortlisted for this award. It’s a privilege to write romantic novels and to have them to be published. As an ex-theatre teacher, it’s important to me that my books are alive with passion and jeopardy, and that the characters are performers. We know ‘all the world’s a stage’. Every day I remember that I’m writing for readers who invest their time and emotions reading my stories, so I try to offer them my best words. I’m sure that, like me, all romance writers believe Shakespeare’s most romantic line when they think of their readers: ‘One half of me is yours, the other half yours.’

The Last Song of Winter by Lulu Taylor (MacMillan):

It is very exciting indeed to be nominated for this award. I used to attend the awards as an editor never dreaming I would one day be nominated myself and I’m hugely looking forward to the occasion. Just being able to attend as a nominee is a wonderful thing.
