Press Release: Romance Reading Month aims to share the power of love stories this season

5 February 2025

London, 29th January, 2025:

This February, we are celebrating Romance Reading Month with a list of exciting activities that encourage our members and readers of romantic fiction to support libraries, local bookshops, romance authors, and, most importantly, to take pride in reading and writing romantic fiction.

A Month to Celebrate Romance

February is the month that celebrates love. This year, as part of the Romance Reading Month, we are celebrating this popular genre with exciting events that are scheduled to take place throughout the month of February 2025.

The first week of February is dedicated to libraries and will see the RNA share stories of various libraries across the UK discussing their romance collections.

The second week will highlight local bookshops. The owner of Book Lovers Bookshop, the first romance-only bookshop in the UK located in Edinburgh, Caden Armstrong will be conversing with us about her journey as a bookseller. This talk will be taking place on Instagram Live on Wednesday, 12th February at 8pm.

The following week sees the attention turned to authors of Romantic Fiction, as well as the stigma authors face for writing in this genre. With the #ProudToWriteRomFic hashtag, we are urging romance authors to share with their communities why they are proud to write romantic fiction. Our President Sue Moorcroft will be heading this week with an Instagram Live on Tuesday, 18th February at 8pm.

In the final week, we will be sending out a Favourite Tropes survey to readers under our #ProudtoReadRomFic campaign. This important questionnaire asks readers about their go-to tropes and reasons for enjoying romantic fiction. This exercise encourages readers to share their love of romance.

Sue Moorcroft, President of the RNA says, ‘I’m proud to write and read the hugely popular genre of romantic fiction. Who and how we love is one of the most important facets of our everyday lives! It’s no wonder so many people enjoy our exploration of it.’

Spread the love on Social Media

The RNA is accessible and proactive on various social media platforms, sharing news of events and encouraging authors and readers to be a part of the romance genre. While people can find the RNA on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, in the coming month, we are preparing to launch two new accounts on TikTok and Blue Sky.

For those on BlueSky, we will be launching this account on Saturday, 1st February as a means to enhance our connection with our community of authors and readers.

In the last few years, BookTok has broken the barriers and societal judgements around romantic fiction. To celebrate this shift, we will also be launching our own TikTok account this Valentine’s Day. The RNA invites readers and authors to join us on TikTok for the launch and to continue the conversation about romantic fiction on the platform.

Romance readers can submit their responses to the Favourite Trope survey at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeY-9j32BD_oTn9DM91Y794d-wK1JHhRMI9T-6h471kl8w78Q/viewform
