Make Your Novel Shine: Developmental self-editing for fiction

With Emma Darwin

This course will run in January 2022.

Self-editing is about a whole lot more than tidying up the sentences. But what should you be looking for, when you set out to revise and edit your writing to become the best it can be? And how do you set about changing things? We will start with ways to get to grips with the plot and structure you have at the moment and think about where it can be developed and strengthened. Then we’ll explore how to bring your characters to more vivid, story-driving life. The crucial issues of storytelling and narrative come next, and finally we’ll tackle the editing process at the page-by-page level. You should end the course with a stronger sense of how to make your novel the best it can be, plenty of tools for diagnosing problems and solving them, and a clear plan for how to set about the revising process.
