WEDNESDAY 9TH MARCH 2022 North Norfolk novelist, Louise Allen, has won the Shorter Romantic Novel Award with her novel, A Proposal to Risk Their Friendship, for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s annual Romantic Novel Awards for 2022. The awards celebrate excellence in romantic fiction in all its forms.

Louise is the author of over seventy historical romances and several history non-fiction titles, all set in the “long” Regency period. After a career in public libraries she took early retirement to write full time. She now lives on the North Norfolk coast with her husband and a garden full of bossy pheasants. Travel is a major love of hers, always with her laptop to hand in case inspiration for a book strikes.

She commented, “I am so thrilled to receive the award in the Shorter Romantic Novel category, especially as the novels shortlisted were such terrific books by authors I admire. We need hope and positivity and love in our lives, perhaps now more than ever, and the Romantic Novelists’ Association champions all those things, so an accolade from them is a true honour.”

Being an enthusiastic whale-watcher I once almost fell over the ship’s rail taking a photo into the open mouth of a humpback whale.

I’m fanatical about historical accuracy in what I write. I had carriage driving lessons to make sure my heroes were managing their teams correctly and have clambered into Georgian coaches in museum stores to investigate whether there was sufficient room for passionate encounters. And far too much of my money goes on buying original Regency fashion prints!
