Finalists: Debut Romantic Novel 2024

19 May 2024

Congratulations to all the Debut Romantic Novel finalists 2024!
For the best romantic novel by a first-time author. Entries may represent any aspect of the romantic genre. This is an excellent category for new or unestablished writers to shine among their peers.

Suzanne Lissaman for Be More Octopus:
It was a wonderful surprise when I read the email telling me Be More Octopus was shortlisted for the Debut Romantic Novel Award. I’ve had excellent feedback from my readers, but getting recognition from the Romantic Novelists’ Association as well has encouraged me to keep writing.

Jennifer Page for The Little Board Game Café:
I am absolutely chuffed! It’s a real honour. The Little Board Game Cafe was my lockdown project – I never expected it to be published, let alone to be shortlisted for an award.

Sal Thomas for The Accidental Housemate:
Excited doesn’t even come close to describing my reaction when I heard I’d been shortlisted. Not since Vera Rubin discovered Dark Matter has a middle-aged woman been so in danger of losing control of her pelvic floor.

Helen Parusel for A Mother’s War:
I’m absolutely stunned and over the moon to be shortlisted for this award. It is an honour to be a nominee among so many talented authors.

Becky Hunter for One Moment:
Having been part of the publishing industry for many years and cheered on other authors who have been shortlisted for an RNA award, it feels totally brilliant and surreal to be shortlisted. I am completely overjoyed – and a little in shock! It’s so important to celebrate this genre’s contribution to the literary world, and the joy it offers so many people, and I could not be happier to be a part of it. Huge congratulations to all other shortlistees!
