Bournemouth based author, Alex Stone, is a contender for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s (RNA) annual Joan Hessayon Award for 2022 with her novel, The Perfect Daughter. The award is for authors whose debut novels have gone through the
RNA’s New Writers’ Scheme and are subsequently accepted for publication.

Alex is an accountant from the West Midlands who uprooted her life to pursue her dream of living by the sea and becoming a writer. She is proof that if you stick at it, anything is possible, and is now a psychological suspense writer based in Dorset. This beautiful and dramatic coast is the inspiration and setting for her novels. She is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and was awarded the Katie Fforde Bursary in 2019.
She commented, ’I’m absolutely thrilled that my debut novel, The Perfect Daughter, is a contender for the Joan Hessayon Award. When I joined the RNA and walked into my very first local chapter meeting in January 2016, I was terrified that I was out of my depth. I didn’t know anyone there and I knew even less about being a proper author. I walked out with amazing friendships that are still going strong and the confidence to keep writing. The conferences, courses, and opportunities that the RNA provides have been amazing, and the critiques for my manuscripts provided as part of the New Writers’ Scheme have been invaluable. I still can’t quite believe that this is all real – I’m a published author and a contender for such a prestigious award! I know I couldn’t have done it without the phenomenal support of the RNA.’
