RNA Industry Awards: Finalists For Library Or Librarian Of The Year 2023

11 October 2023

The Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) is delighted to announce the shortlists for their annual Industry Awards for 2023. The awards celebrate the hard work and talent of any person, group or organisation who has championed the broad genre of romantic fiction in a positive way.

LIBRARY OR LIBRARIAN OF THE YEAR

Stockton-on-Tees Libraries

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Libraries has nine community libraries and one mobile library offering a wide variety of books and resources to the community. They host a range of events and activities for all ages and regularly host larger events such as costume presentations, murder mystery nights and author talks. They also organise Crossing the Tees Book Festival with the other library authorities of the Tees Valley.

Reading Resources Librarian Ruth Cull said, ‘We are delighted to be shortlisted for the RNA Library or Librarian of the Year Award. This nomination is a huge honour as it comes directly from RNA members. We love to host events with romantic novelists as the books are so popular with our readers and it is fantastic to be recognised for our work promoting romantic fiction.’

Ripley Library

The library is located in the heart of Ripley, Derbyshire and is currently made up of three members of staff, a Home Library staff member and an Assistant in Charge. The library strives to put the community first and offers a large array of books (including audio, large-print and a Home Library service for house-bound customers) on numerous subjects as well as providing support, help and a safe space for anyone who requires it. The library also hosts various events throughout the year tailored to the community as well as providing exemplary customer service and fun and engaging displays which change on a monthly basis.

Ashley Copeland, Assistant in Charge, said, ‘I am honoured and surprised that the library has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award. The staff here work so hard to ensure that everyone who visits (be it for books, general information or just as a place to sit) feels welcome and included and I am so proud of everything they have achieved over the last few years. Even if we do not win this award the fact that we have been shortlisted is something I feel the staff (and library) fully deserves.’

The winners of the ten awards will be announced during the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s Winter Party and Industry Awards ceremony, which is being held at the Leonardo Royal Hotel London City, 8-14 Cooper’s Row, London EC3N 2BQ, on Monday 13th November 2023 at 6.30pm.

This year’s awards are sponsored by ProWritingAid, a manuscript editing software programme with in-app video learning for writers. Hayley Milliman, Head of Education at ProWritingAid said, ‘Congratulations to the finalists for the 2023 RNA Industry Awards! We applaud your accomplishments and hard work bringing beautiful stories to life.’
