The Romantic Novelists’ Association are welcoming new writers with their Aspiring Writers membership.

Benefits include:

We are excited to announce our brand new membership categories for 2024.

We currently offer Full Membership, Associate Membership and the New Writers’ Scheme (NWS) which is unique to the RNA. The NWS membership entitles the new writer to submit a manuscript for critique from a professional author member and spaces are strictly limited to 250. Submissions to the NWS open on New Year’s Day and places are often snapped up within minutes with a waiting list of those who don’t make it.

I’m confident that our new Aspiring Writers category will widen participation for those writers who may not yet have a manuscript ready for critique, while our Friends of the RNA category will help members who have stepped away from their writing career to remain part of our supportive community. Jean Fullerton RNA Chair

Two brand new options

The first of the two new options is the Aspiring Writers category, designed to create a place within the RNA for those members who would normally be on the NWS waiting list. This category is ideal for unpublished writers who have always wanted to write romantic fiction and are just taking their first steps into learning their craft.

The second new category is Friends of the RNA. This will serve as an alumni option for those authors who were previously members and have now stopped writing professionally but would still like to be part of the RNA.

We’re excited to launch these two new categories of membership, retaining old friends and welcoming new ones to the Romantic Novelists’ Association. We exist to encourage romantic authorship and this is the perfect way to support the romantic novelists of the future and retain our more experienced members who are no longer actively publishing but whose knowledge, skills and experience make the RNA what it is. Katie Ginger RNA Member Services Officer

For many professional authors of romantic fiction, the RNA has provided a gateway into the publishing industry. It is hoped that the new categories will ensure the RNA is open, inclusive and able to nurture even more new writers and to continue the close relationship with the retired writers who would like to remain part of the community.

The new categories will be launched on 5th February and the RNA would like to invite all authors of romantic fiction to apply.
