7 February 2023

Louise Allen – The Earl’s Mysterious Lady

Cley-next-the-Sea author, Louise Allen, has been shortlisted in the Shorter Romantic Novel Award category with her novel, The Earl’s Mysterious Lady, for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s (RNA) annual Romantic Novel Awards for 2023. The awards celebrate excellence in romantic fiction in all its forms.

Louise lives on the North Norfolk coast with her husband and a garden that fights back. She is the author of over 70 historical romances and several non-fiction history titles. Almost all are set in the years spanning Jane Austen’s lifetime, a period on the threshold of the modern world that she finds endlessly fascinating. When she isn’t writing and battling the garden she enjoys traveling and collecting original Regency prints.

She commented, ‘This is such a thrill and an honour! The RNA is the true home of every kind of romantic fiction and that means their awards are something truly special. Whatever the result, it is wonderful to be shortlisted with writers whose work I enjoy and admire.’

Angela Britnell – Summer at Seaspray Cottage

Cornish author, Angela Britnell, has been shortlisted in the Shorter Romantic Novel Award category with her novel, Summer at Seaspray Cottage, for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s (RNA) annual Romantic Novel Awards for 2023. The awards celebrate excellence in romantic fiction in all its forms.

Angela grew up in Cornwall, England, and returns frequently from her new home in Nashville, Tennessee, to visit family and friends, drink tea and eat far too many Cornish pasties! A lifelong love of reading turned into a passion for writing contemporary romance and her novels are usually set in the many places she’s visited or lived on her extensive travels. Thanks to almost four decades of marriage to her wonderful American husband she’s a huge fan of transatlantic romance and always makes sure her characters get their own happy-ever-after. Her first novel Truth and Consequence was published in 2006 and she’s now had over 40 novels published internationally and multiple short stories in women’s magazines.

She commented, ‘I’ve been a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association for over fifteen years and it’s such a wonderful supportive group, so to be a finalist for this prestigious award is a huge honour.’

SUMMER AT SEASPRAY COTTAGE (Publisher: Choc Lit)
There’s a reason Thea Armitage hasn’t set foot in Cornwall in twenty years. But when she inherits her aunt’s Cornish seaside cottage, a transatlantic trip from her home in Tennessee could be a necessity. Surely she won’t bump into that ‘reason’ – Harry Venton – after all those years. Will she?

Jenni Fletcher – The Shopgirl’s Forbidden Love

Hull-based author, Jenni Fletcher, has been shortlisted in the Shorter Romantic Novel Award category with her novel, The Shopgirl’s Forbidden Love, for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s (RNA) annual Romantic Novel Awards for 2023. The awards celebrate excellence in romantic fiction in all its forms.

Jenni fell in love with historical romance when she was 15 years old and has been reading/writing it ever since. Her stories range from the Roman to late Victorian eras because she has historical commitment issues, but at the moment she’s completely obsessed with the Regency era. She grew up in Scotland and Somerset and now lives in East Yorkshire with her family and one extremely hairy dog.

She commented, ‘I didn’t actually believe the e-mail for a few seconds because I was curled up in bed with a cold and thought maybe I was imagining things, but after I read it a few times, it was a lovely surprise. I’m very grateful to the reader-judges of my book. You made me feel much better!’
