Romantic Novelists' Association

Press Release: Big Five To Attend RNA Conference 2023

23 May 2023

Representatives from the Big Five Publishing Houses to attend the Romantic Novelists’ Association Conference 2023

Registration is now open for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s highly anticipated 2023 conference. The event will take place at Imperial College, London from 11th -13th August and promises an extensive programme of exciting and informative sessions. An array of distinguished publishers and authors will take part, including international bestselling psychological thriller writer Sophie Hannah as well as Sunday Times bestselling romantic fiction writers Rachel Hore and Liz Fenwick.

The conference is suitable for writers at all stages of their career, from novices to established bestselling authors. We welcome those both traditionally and independently published. With a jam-packed itinerary, there is something for everyone.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn everything from writing the perfect pitch letter or synopsis, supercharging their social media, newsletters and marketing, to creating podcasts and maximising their earnings through interactive romantic games. The conference will kick off with a ‘Romance State of the Union’ panel made up of agents and publishers designed to give delegates the industry’s view of what’s hot and what’s not in the fiction market. The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, along with her co-writer Marguerite Kaye will host a fascinating session called ‘Collabor-Writing.’ There are practical sessions on Scrivener and Canva too.

One of the conference’s highlights is the opportunity for delegates to book one-to-one appointments with industry professionals including publishers, editors and literary agents. In the past, many RNA members have secured agents and/or book deals from these sessions. The ten-minute slots provide invaluable advice from industry experts and will be allocated nearer the time. This year, the RNA is excited to acknowledge, for the first time ever, representatives from imprints of all the big five publishing houses will attend.

Please note one-to-one appointments are free to RNA members attending the conference, however there is an admin charge for delegates who are non-members.

The event is the ideal place to network and mingle with other authors and publishing professionals. There is also plenty of time for socialising at the gala party which will be held on the Saturday night.

Weekend residential and non-residential packages are available to both members and non-members as are Saturday day passes.

Conference Organiser and RNA Board Member Sue Merritt said, ‘I am so proud of the 2023 programme. The opportunities to meet publishing professionals are outstanding. This conference provides a real opportunity to invest in your writing.’

Jean Fullerton, Chair of the RNA added, ‘We are a professional organisation for professional writers and this conference will be testament to that. It will be both an investment in your future and a thoroughly entertaining and inspiring weekend. ‘
